Gators BIG V Round 12 Review

The Senior Gator Women’s mini winning streak continues, as they took on Corio Stingrays on the road. A huge double double by Jessica Rarity 17 Points & 18 Rebounds. Alysha Carden David replicating her teammates performance with a double double of her own 21 Points & 14 Rebounds.

A disappointing way to start the weekend for the Gator Youth League Men as they were defeated by the top of the table Camberwell Dragons. During the first half the boys were still in touch but in the 3rd they were outscored 25-7 by the Dragons and the Gators were struggling, finishing the game with 20 turnovers.

The Gator Youth League Women met Dandenong Rangers Saturday night at the Swamp. A close contest at times but few huge 3 pointers from Alicia Scibberas and Charli Spence ensured some safety to the Gators lead late in the 4th Quarter. Cassie Dodemaide and Jade Azzopardi’s link-up plays inside the paint was fantastic. The Gator Girls had some great defence and ball movement in this game and it was great to see Esta Rarere back on court.

Sunday at the Swamp had us in for a great Triple Header for our Mental Health Round accompanied by our friends at The Shaka Project. The Gators Senior Men got us off to a great start as they beat the Mildura Heat. A huge 2nd Quarter by the Gators scoring 27-8 saw them have a comfortable lead at halftime. Tyson Burton with his strong physicality finished with 28 points & 9 Rebounds – just shy of a double-double. The Boogie King Joey Mausar with some Silky footwork saw him drop 3 from downtown and the Gator Senior Men are back on the winners list.

The Gator Youth League Men bounced back with vengeance at home on Sunday against Warrandyte Venom. A fast-paced contest early with sharp shooting from both sides. Jake Afoa was on fire and not even Venom itself could have stopped the beast which was unleashed throughout the game. Jake Afoa dropping a Huge 52 Points (20 × 2 point made, 2 × 3 point made, 10 free throws made) accompanied with 13 Rebounds, 3 Assists in only 27 minutes on the Court!
Another young Gator who was also very lively in this game was Marach Marach who finished with 20 Points & 10 Rebounds.

To wrap up our Triple Header the Gators Youth League Women unfortunately were defeated by Diamond Valley Eagles. Despite a double-double from Cassie Dodemaide with 10 Points & 13 Rebounds however it could not stop the DV Eagles who were flying high in the Last Quarter. The Gators too little to late to pull off a comeback falling short by just 5 points.

We have a huge weekend of basketball this weekend at the Swamp. There are not many home games left for the year, so make sure you come down and cheer on our teams.
