At this stage, Basketball Victoria have received information from Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) that the Department of Health has confirmed that it is intended that community sport, both indoor and outdoor is excluded from vaccination requirements if participants are attending solely for the activity.
The exclusion applies to attendees who are necessary to facilitate the community sporting activity, such as participants and volunteers.
At this stage the vaccination requirement will apply to facility workers and volunteers if their jobs extend beyond community sport, plus venues where there are food or beverage facilities.
Basketball Victoria is waiting further information from Sports and Recreation Victoria, we will provide an update prior to the try-outs commencing.
Parent Involvement:
In the best interest of players and coaches, parents are excluded from try-outs. An exception may be made for a player with underlying health concerns that needs to be constantly monitored. Parents of players in Under 12s can attend if they wish. Contact details of each parent are collected during the registration process and in the event an injury or illness occurs, parents would be immediately contacted.
Attendance at Try-outs and Injuries:
All pre-existing or long-term injuries must be communicated at the time of registration.
The injured player will be contacted by the Head Coach of each age group. The injured player should still attend the try-out.
A player should not feel compelled to participate in try-outs if they are injured.
If a player is unable to try-out in any capacity due to a long-term injury, their selection will be based on previous performance with vast consultation with prior year coaches.
Players are expected to attend all sessions to be eligible for selection in a team.
If a player is unable to attend due to illness or injury or unforeseen commitment, permission must be sought and granted prior to the commencement of the session.
If a player is not comfortable attending try-outs due to concerns regarding to COVID-19, they should notify the club.
