BIG V Wrap Up – Round 17 & Youth League Finals
This week, our Senior Men and Women regular season continued for round 17. It started with a long trip for the Senior Women all the way to Gippsland on Saturday Night. Jess Rarity and Sharna Appleby once again having a great game with 18 points each. Extremely close finish to this game and unfortunately the Gators just falling short.
The Senior Men were in desperate search to bounce back on the winners list, and they did it with authority beating the Surf Coast Chargers on the road. Scores were close in the first half but in the second half the Gators snapped and scored 25 points in both the 3rd and 4th quarter. Loving the teamwork from this team with 5 players in double digits on the scoresheet. A solid win for the Gators currently 4th on the Ladder.
Finals hoops on Saturday night for our Gator Girls who took on the Kilsyth Cobras. An electric crowd at the Swamp with 70 + in the house. The Cobras started off well and for most of the 2nd quarter the Gators were down by 15 points. The Gators with an incredible 15-0 run to start the second half and they steered the ship back on their terms. Defence Dodemaide was enormous especially in the 4th and the Gators advance in the Finals Race!
The Youth League Women took on the Casey Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon in their qualifying final. With their finals hopes on the line, the girls got off to a red-hot start outscoring the Cavs in the 1st quarter 21-9. As the match went on the Cavaliers started to get into a rhythm and in the end closed out the Gators.
Commiserations to our girls but we are all so proud of them for coming this far in the season and to make finals is a great achievement. Congratulations to coaches Randy Shanklin, Kate Coffey and the Youth League Women on a fantastic year πππ
Gator Fam, keep an eye out for finals details for our Youth League Men who kick off their finals campaign next weekend!
