The Gators Youth League Men travelled to Broadmeadows to take on Hume Broncos Saturday Night. A strong 3rd quarter by the Gators outscoring the Broncos 25-14 saw them hold on in the 4th quarter for a nice win on the road. Jake Afoa had a double-double in this match with 24 points, 16 rebounds in 18 minutes. The Gators had 5 players Score in double-digits Afoa, Goodier, Makauc, Salon, and Lyzel.
Saturday Night the Gators Senior Women unfortunately lost to Mornington Breakers for the second time this season. It was a close back and forth in the first half but there was a momentum shift after half time with the Breakers scoring a few consecutive baskets and outscoring the Gators in the 3rd quarter 27-12. Hopefully they can bounce back next game against another strong team RMIT.
The Gators Youth League Women opened our Triple Header Sunday in fine style. It was a tight battle between the teams for majority of the game which had our Gators playing great tough basketball. However in the last Quarter a couple of big-time baskets from Alicia Sciberras gave the Gators control of the game which was sealed by Trinity Steeleβs free throws late in the match. A huge win for the Gator Girls as they snap Nunawadingβs 16 game winning streak.
A powerful 16-0 run to start the 2nd Youth League Mens Game for Round 13 had our Gator Boys cooking against the young Craigieburn Eagles. The hot handed Hamish Goodier in the early stages of the match got his team out to a comfortable lead and throughout the rest of the game Jake Afoa did his thing dropping 28 points, 18 rebounds. Despite the numerous turnovers in this game by the Gators, at times they were just too quick in attack in particular through Mayoul Makauc who had 13points, 11 Assists, 2 Steals. A nice double victory over the weekend by the Gator Youth League Boys!
To cap off our Sunday Triple Header the Gators Senior Men put a cherry on top of the sundae for the Gator fans as they defeated Surf Coast Chargers. Credit to the Chargers who put up a great fight and kept it close on the scoreboard in the first half but after halftime the Gator Men started to find their rhythm. Another game, another double double from Tyson Burton who finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds. Zachary Polglaze also had a double double with 14 points, 14 rebounds. The Senior Gator Men fired away in the last quarter outscoring the Chargers 28-4 and got themselves a brilliant team win.
