Big V Basketball is Back for 2022

17 March 2022

Hello Gatorโ€™s Family,

The wait is over! The Altona Gators senior basketball program is locked and loaded for Big V season 2022. Our senior teams have been training hard and ready to prepare for what is sure to be an exciting season. ย The new look Youth League One Men led by head coach Sedale Threatt Jr. will be one of the best teams in the competition, not to mention the most exciting! The Youth Championship Women led by Randy Shanklin will look to build on their consecutive seasons of reaching the finals in the top youth league competition. The Division Two Women are led by head coach Cameron Wilkosz. The ladies had an amazing return to Big V by dominating the top of the ladder position for several weeks before the lockdown ended the season. The Division Two Men also have a new look with playing coach Jordan Lino taking the reins. This veteran group of players will look to build on their success from the 2021 campaign where they finished 2nd on the ladder when the season was ended due to COVID–19. Gatorโ€™s supporters have a lot of fun and excitement to look forward to this season as all of our teams bring an exciting brand of basketball to grace โ€œThe Swampโ€.

This weekend, the Youth Championship Women will open up the new season on our new show court in a hotly contested matchup against the Waverley Falcons on Saturday March 19th at 7:30pm. Thatโ€™s just the beginning! Sunday March 20th โ€œThe Swampโ€ will be hosting a blockbuster triple-header! The curtain raiser at noon will be our Youth Championship Women against the mighty Melbourne Tigers. 2pm will see the Division Two Women play their newfound rivals Coburg in what will be an exciting matchup of two of 2021โ€™s hottest teams. Our Division Two Men round out the day against the young and athletic Melton Thoroughbreds at 4pm. This weekend is just the beginning of what will be an outstanding season for all of our senior teams. We look forward to having your support. Remember, entry is fee for Gatorโ€™s Players.
